On this project, we worked with the clients and architects, Michaelis Boyd, to create a light, spacious, open-plan living area in the basement of a classic Victorian townhouse in Notting Hill.

Our clients were keen to have a sociable living area but still keep all the functionality a modern family kitchen needs. A large central island, with corian worktops, provides a practical working area that houses all appliances and storage, avoiding the need for wall units. Midway function boxes along the back wall provide additional hidden storage for knives, chopping boards, spices, etc. As the clients are keen cooks they invested in a combination steam oven as well as a warming drawer. This absence of eye-level units helps give the space more of a living-area feel while the stools on the rear side add to the sociable aspect.

Large folding glass doors replace the rear wall, creating plenty of natural light. The free-standing, floating kitchen furniture (which houses the family-size fridge freezer) enhances the minimal aesthetic and feeling of space created by the architects. This provides a classic example of the light enhancing architectural aesthetic achieved by using the free-standing B3 range.
